On Tuesday, August 20 the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce will partner with Kalispell Public Schools to host the first public event at the newly renovated Flathead High School.
In 2016, Kalispell voters approved a $54 million bond, designating $28.76 million of improvements to the high school district this includes Flathead and Glacier High, Linderman Education Center, Agricultural Education Center, and Legends Field.
“The total budgeted amount for Flathead High was $12,945,000, which included design fees, change orders, furniture, fixtures and equipment, and deferred maintenance fees,” said Mark Flatau, Superintendent of Kalispell Public Schools. “We are proud to say we are going to come in well under budget at approximately $11,851,000.”
Luncheon attendees will eat lunch provided by Panera in the new gymnasium and hear remarks from Flatau along with representatives from Morrison-Maierle and LPW, the projects engineers and architects respectively.
Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to break into small groups and tour the school, gaining a first-hand look at the updated auditorium, flexible learning spaces, redesign of where the half-floors were, and the 17 new classrooms including a world-class biomedical room.
“Biotech is a rapidly growing industry here in the Flathead and one that we are excited to support through expanded education and workforce efforts,” said Joe Unterreiner, President/CEO of the Kalispell Chamber. “This feature, along with improved teaching and meeting space, remodeled theater and new gym, will give our students the facilities they need to learn and compete with students anywhere in the country.”
The August 20 event is open to the public, though interested individuals will need to register in advance by Friday, August 16 by visiting http://www.kalispellchamber.com or calling (406) 758-2803. The cost to attend is $25.
