Native Arts Workshop Scheduled In Havre 2/25

The Montana Cooperative Development Center will
sponsor a
free Native arts marketing workshop Wednesday, February 25, 2004 from
9:30
a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montana State University-Northern Student Union Ballroom in Havre.

Participants will learn how to better market art works and how to earn
more
profit at tradeshows, art exhibits, powwows, and other events where
Native
artists offer their creations.

The workshop presenters are three Native artists with extensive
business and
marketing experience in Montana.

Jesse (Crazy Boy) Henderson is an enrolled member of the Rocky Boy’s
Chippewa-Cree Tribe. A self-taught artist, he has been drawing and
painting
since he was ten years old. A painter with the style and flavor of
Charlie
Russell, he has won several prestigious awards and was featured in a
variety
of articles in local, regional, and national print media.

Michelle (W am ni-wea – Eagle Woman) Henderson is an enrolled member of
the
Fort Belknap Assiniboine Tribe. She earned a masters degree in business
administration from the University of Montana and was a founder and
former
executive director of the National American Indian Business Leaders
Program.

Al (Good Strike) Chandler is an enrolled member of the Gros Ventre
Tribe at
Fort Belknap. A self-taught artist and member of the Montana Artists in
Schools and Communities program, he creates unique rawhide par fleche
cases
and hand drums decorated with natural earth paints. Chandler’s awards
include a best-of-show award at the American Indian Arts Festival in
Dallas
for a painted buffalo robe.
