Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Richland, WA , selected as national model for economic development

Out of 300 federal labs, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory was one of seven cited as models of tech-based economic development nationwide. On November 20, the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Technology Policy released a new report entitled, “Partners on a Mission: Federal Laboratory Practices Contributing to Economic Development.” It documents seven best-practices federal labs and two programs that provide regions with access to federally funded technologies and facilities.

The report praised PNNL’s technology assistance to more than 550 firms, the MBA marketing assistance program with WSU-TC, local incubators with whom PNNL partners, programs to help entrepreneurs find equity capital and make business connections, partnerships with TRIDEC and other business support organizations, and the SBIR Alerting Service. PNNL was one of three labs invited to present when the Department of Commerce released the report with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers at a Congressional briefing in Washington, D.C.
