The Institute is an in-depth training opportunity ideal for anyone working together to solve critical community problems. The Institute will cover the community-building process, including sessions on community analysis and assessment; community and public awareness; networks, collaborations and leadership; strategic community planning; community plan implementation; and evaluation and measurement. There will also be time dedicated to developing individual/organizational Community Action Plans for implementation following the Institute.

Community Building Institute as produced by the Montana Commission on Community Service is designed to be the premier training for the interested participant to learn and develop skills to build and tackle projects, and needs in their communities. It is designed to be an essential experience for members of national service and national service site personnel as well as community programs directors and supervisors. Outcomes for the training are an opportunity to learn and understand the community building cycle and to work together to develop action plans relevant to home endeavors.

Who can attend CBI?
National Service Members and Programs
All VISTAs and their Site Supervisor who had a VISTA start one-month prior are expected to attend.
All AmeriCorps Project Staff and Team Leaders and Senior Corps Directors.

Private and Non-National Service Sector
Private non-profit Directors, Civic or
Governmental Community Organizations
Community Leadership Participants
All others interested in the Community Building process and cycle..

There will be a $200 registration fee for this training
National Service Participants will receive a registration scholarship provided by the Montana Cross Stream Training Committee of the Corporation for National and Community Service. Non-National Service Participants can request a scholarship by indicating in writing their need and how such training would benefit them and their communities. For scholarship, please contact

Training registrations must be submitted to the Montana Commission on Community Service by February 26,2004. Please use the attached cover Registration or the National Service Program Registration Form for National Service Programs only! Public registrations will be taken until the first day of the training. Check In will begin at 9:30 A.M. March 4, 2004

Travel:
Travel to this training is to be provided by the participant or their project in the case of National Service Participants. The Montana Commission on Community Service is not responsible for travel costs.

Meals:

The following meals will be provided in the training registration:

Lunch – March 4, 2004 at 1:00 p.m.

Supper – March 4, 2004

Breakfast – March 5, 2004

Lunch – March 5, 2004 at 1:00 p.m.

Sleeping Rooms

National Service Participants — The Montana Commission on Community Service will make the reservations and pay for National Service Participants at Jorgenson’s Inn and Suites for March 4, 2004. Rooming lists for National Service participants must accompany registration forms and comply with the deadlines. Please use the attached rooming form. Room cancellations for National Service Participants must be reported to the Montana Commission on Community Service 48 hours prior to the event. The National Service Participants are expected to share rooms unless there is need for a single room due to a disability accommodation or some other situation. Please indicate this need on the registration form.

Public participants will be required to make their own arrangements.

Participant Roles and Instructions
A pre-training exercise will be sent to you upon registration. This exercise will enable you to be more efficient during the training and gain more from the effort.

CBI Training will be more effective if participants are attending as a team of two people from an organization. (Supervisor/supervisee)
