The University of Montana offers economic outlook seminars throughout Montana

Economic literacy — understanding how local, national, and global economies work and are linked — is an effective tool for making realistic and profitable business decisions.

Individuals who have a solid grasp of economic principles better understand the forces that significantly affect the quality of their lives.

Thirty-five states have mandated economic education in their elementary, middle and high schools to improve the chances of success for future business leaders. Montana has recognized this need and is working to establish economic literacy standards.

During the 29th Annual Montana Economic Outlook Seminars, researchers will discuss economic education and the important role Montana businesses can play in fulfilling this mission. In addition, the seminar will feature national, state and local economic outlooks, as well as forecasts for specific Montana industries.

The seminar, presented by The University of Montana’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research and First Interstate Bank, runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be held in these nine cities:

* Helena — Jan. 27, Red Lion Colonial Hotel.

* Great Falls — Jan. 28, Holiday Inn.

* Missoula — Jan. 30, Holiday Inn Parkside.

* Billings — Feb. 3, Northern Hotel.

* Bozeman — Feb. 4, Holiday Inn.

* Butte — Feb. 5, Ramada Inn Copper King.

* Kalispell — Feb. 10, Kalispell Center Hotel.

Registration is $70 and includes the seminar, proceedings booklet, lunch and a one-year subscription to the Montana Business Quarterly. Continuing education credits are available for an additional $20. For more information or to register, call (406) 243-5113 or visit the bureau’s Web site at http://www.bber.umt.edu.
