Nevada Wireless will enter Spokane market

Reno company to launch service here early in 2004

Nevada Wireless LLC, a Reno, Nev.-based wireless service provider, plans to begin offering service in Spokane early next year. The company, which offers integrated two-way radio and digital cellular service for business use, will conduct operations here under the name Airpeak Communications LLC.

The privately-owned carrier is making a push in the western U.S. to provide local coverage at competitive prices, says spokesman Mark Conte. He says the company has targeted Spokane as prime for wireless market expansion.

“Our intent is to work within the business-to-business market,” Conte says.

Airpeak’s service will cover the greater Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas.

Airpeak will offer local customer service at multiple company-operated offices in Spokane, but locations haven’t been determined, Conte says. The company also will organize an independent dealer network here, offering its phones and services through established vendors.

Airpeak will bring some new jobs to Spokane, but the exact number hasn’t been determined yet, Conte says.

Nevada Wireless already has made initial investments and has built an infrastructure in Spokane, including installing its own towers. The company has acquired the necessary licenses to offer digital wireless services in the region, Conte says.

Airpeak will operate with Motorola Integrated Digital Enhanced Network technology to offer cell phones that also have two-way radio capabilities and push-to-talk functions.
