Telemarketing business closes in Kalispell- 50 jobs lost

About 50 employees of Teleperformance USA are now unemployed.

The Kalispell business reportedly sent workers home Monday, saying do-not-call legislation caused the demise of the telemarketing service provider.

On Monday morning, employees arrived to find the office on First Avenue West is closing, their jobs are gone, and their benefits are immediately severed.

Employees were told they could pick up their last checks today.

Callers to the Kalispell office Monday were referred to the firm’s Salt Lake City headquarters.

A statement by Teleperformance USA in Salt Lake said the closure is "due to the scaling back of a major outbound telemarketing program conducted on behalf of one of the company’s clients."

The statement by Roy Prasad, vice president of corporate human resources, cites the Federal Trade Commission’s national do-not-call list and related regulations as the reason behind the loss.

The do-not-call list meant a sharp reduction in business for Teleperformance USA.

"We had a dedicated and hard-working team in Kalispell, which has made this decision all the more difficult," Prasad said.

The Kalispell employees were given the option of transferring to other Teleperformance sites.

Teleperformance USA opened in Kalispell in October 1998, projecting 100-120 jobs and a monthly payroll of about $70,000. At the time, the company’s Kalispell office was the company’s 13th office in the Intermountain West and its fourth in Montana.

Other branches were in Billings, Bozeman and Butte.

Nationwide, Teleperformance USA has more than 30 call centers.
