Itronix lands $11 million contract to supply ultrarugged computers to Army

Itronix Corp. of Spokane announced Monday it has won an $11 million contract to supply ultratough laptop computers to the U.S. Army.

From staff and wire reports The Spokesman Review

The deal calls for Itronix to provide more than 2,200 Itronix GoBOOK II laptops to the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga.

The laptops will be sent to Fort Stewart to replace existing laptops.

Introduced in 2002, the GoBOOK II is designed with integrated wireless cards that can support up to three wireless networks concurrently, a removable hard drive for enhanced data security and high-end processing power for advanced computing applications.

GoBOOKs are designed to withstand extreme heat, dust, rain, cold or vibrations.

They are designed in Spokane, assembled overseas and then configured for final delivery at the company’s Liberty Lake production site.

In addition to the Fort Stewart contracts, Itronix recently received approximately $8.8 million in federal appropriations for the development of new products for the U.S. military. Of that, $7 million will go to help Itronix and a partner, Trident Systems, develop a reliable computer handheld device that helps troops keep track of battlefield locations.

The other $1.8 million in the 2004 defense budget is to help Itronix and General Dynamics Corp. develop longer-lasting batteries for computers and wireless devices.
