‘Green power’ projects get $32 million backing in Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust outlined plans to commit $32 million in financing to promote five proposed "green power" projects.

The Boston Globe

The projects would total nearly 100 megawatts in generating capacity, enough to serve about 75,000 average homes, representing $120 million in total investment.

They include two wind farms for Western Massachusetts, a small hydroelectric station in Pepperell, a project using landfill gas from a Dartmouth dump to make electricity, and conversion of a coal-fired plant in Portsmouth, N.H., to run on wood chips.

The trust is run by the Westborough-based Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. It is funded by a small tax on Bay State electric bills, typically 20 to 30 cents monthly for average homeowners. (Peter J. Howe)
