MSU student collaborates with local food bank to build new youth gardening education program

Thanks to Mikkelson, Holder said, the food bank’s first-ever summer gardening program for at-risk youth is now wrapping up. During the nine-week program, Holder observed the inaugural class of five teen participants discover a sense of belonging, and she anticipates it will eventually generate hundreds of pounds of fresh produce for the food bank to distribute.

"Youth participants reported back that they had built strong bonds, and some actually said they would miss seeing one another when the summer session ended," she said.
