Montana State University-Billings is looking for a new permanent chief academic officer.

The university announced Friday that Provost Robert Hoar was stepping down, effective immediately.

Dr. Mary Susan Fishbaugh, dean of both the College of Education and Graduate Studies, was named interim provost.

In a news release, MSUB officials did not give a reason for Hoar's departure after three years or mention his next step.
