Governor Bullock says Republican Secretary of State Corey Stapleton withholding details

Gov. Steve Bullock’s staff is criticizing the secretary of state’s office for not supplying updated tallies on a special session proposed for later this month that includes how each member of the Legislature is voting.

With a July 15 deadline looming, 26 Montana lawmakers polled favor a special session and 38 are opposed, according to numbers released Friday by the Secretary of State’s office.

"What’s the status of the special session vote? Hard to tell," Ronja Abel, Bullock’s communications director, wrote earlier in the day in an email.

She said Secretary of State Corey Stapleton’s office had not updated the governor’s office since July 2, despite nearly a dozen requests "and trips down the hallway" for more information.
