Carroll College research festival speaker Dr. Hilton Lewis oversees 2 of the world’s largest telescopes
April 21, 2018 /
Dr. Hilton Lewis, the head of the W.M. Keck Observatory http://www.keckobservatory.org/ in Hawaii, was this year’s speaker.
Lewis’s observatory houses two of the most powerful telescopes in the world near the summit of the 14,000-foot volcano Mauna Kea.
"All the big questions about the universe, how it started, how it’s evolving, how it’s going to end," Lewis said, are being asked there.
"Science isn’t a thing that happens in textbooks," Lewis said. "It’s a human enterprise dominated by human mistakes and endeavor."
