The Department of Commerce is bringing nine manufacturers of hunting and tactical equipment to Germany to test the waters of exporting their products to Europe.

The businesses will attend IWA Outdoor Classics in Nuremberg from March 9-12. It is a leading trade fair for hunting, shooting sports and equipment for outdoor activities as well as security applications such as law enforcement.

"Outdoor recreation in Montana is a $7.1 billion industry," said Commerce Director Pam Haxby-Cote. "For the many small businesses that manufacture gear to help us recreate in our public lands, selling internationally is a path to growing and diversifying their sales. German consumers value outdoor recreation as well, so this market is full of opportunity for Montana."

In 2016, Montana exports to Europe totaled nearly $180 million. More than 8 percent were miscellaneous manufactured commodities, which includes hunting and tactical products.
