Missoula’s Uptown Diner closing its doors

Many Missoulians recognize the teal and pink retro signage of the Uptown Diner.

The classic restaurant has served many Montanans since 1991 but announced Friday that they would be closing their doors forever. Reporter Donal Lakatua talked with long-time employees and loyal customers to get their reaction to the news.

The Uptown Diner (406) 542-2449 has long been a staple in Missoula’s downtown but on Friday, managers announced that it would be closing its doors forever.

"Friday they put on the radio that we were gonna close, on the 18th of February. It just exploded. We can even keep ice cream — enough ice cream. We’ve been to get ice cream three times in the last two days," said Syleena Simkins who works as the front manager. "I think that kids love this place, our milkshakes are the bomb."
