The University of Montana Hires Seth Bodnar as 18th President

Montana University System leaders announced today that Seth Bodnar has accepted the offer to be the next president of the University of Montana.

Subject to Board of Regents approval in November, Bodnar will assume the UM presidency on Jan. 1.

Fran Albrecht, chair of the Montana University System Board of Regents, said board members reached consensus in confidently supporting Bodnar as the type of transformational leader UM needs now and well into the future.

BREAKING: G.E. exec Seth Bodnar chosen as next UM president

After finding out that he was chosen as the University of Montana’s next president, Seth Bodnar, 38, said he will draw on his experience as a leader to help the University move through its enrollment struggles and into the next chapter.

"It’s a tremendous honor to join a great community," he said.

Bodnar spoke about his excitement to be the new UM President

"The experience I have had in building not just a collaborative, but an innovative culture of organization to help them adapt to a complex and changing environment has been something that I have done effectively in the past and I look forward to doing collaboratively with team at the university of Montana," said Bodnar.

GE executive selected as University of Montana president

General Electric executive Seth Bodnar accepted a preliminary offer Tuesday to become the 18th president of the University of Montana.

"I’m honored and humbled by the confidence placed in me by the selection committee and the (Montana) Board of Regents," Bodnar said in a text. "I’m incredibly excited to join the UM team and will pour my heart and soul into helping chart the next chapter for this great institution."

Bodnar, 38, was considered the nontraditional candidate among four finalists. He was the only one without a doctorate and his career has comprised roughly six years at GE and eight years in the military instead of a long tenure in higher education.
