Feature Analyst Grant Program Extended Due to Demand

MISSOULA, Montana – Visual Learning Systems Inc. (VLS) is pleased to announce that the application deadline for the Feature Analyst Grant Program for Higher Education has been extended to December 31, 2003.

Since July 2003, more than 70 leading colleges and universities have applied and been accepted into the Feature Analyst Grant Program. “With the help of ESRI, the response to the Feature Analyst Grant Progam has been overwhelming,” states VLS COO Stuart Blundell. “The majority of applicants are interested in advanced research applications for feature extraction in forestry, environmental, agriculture, and coastal resource management projects. We are also seeing a strong interest in building Feature Analyst directly into undergraduate GIS and remote sensing classes.”

The Feature Analyst Grant Program provides qualified institutions with 50 licenses of the Feature Analyst extensions for ArcGIS and ERDAS Imagine. There is no application fee, and institutions with site licenses of ESRI software are pre-qualified, and pay half of the $2,000 license setup fee. “This program is an excellent opportunity for qualified institutions to work with the most advanced feature extraction software on the market,” says Blundell. “Feature Analyst lends itself very well to both undergraduate geo-spatial coursework as well as advanced research in object-specific feature extraction. We expect that by the end of 2003 over 200 colleges and universities, will have signed up and taken advantage of this fantastic opportunity.”

Feature Analyst On-line training is now available to support both the Grant Program as well as current, and future Feature Analyst users. “The on-line training course is modeled after ESRI’s Virtual Campus,” explains Blundell. “User’s will learn everything from simple extraction techniques to more sophisticated skills, with exams and exercises along the way.”
