National Call With Senator Jon Tester On The 28th Amendment - 9/9

August 31, 2017View for printing

Please join American Promise, special guest U.S. Senator Jon Tester, and citizens like you for our monthly national Citizen Leader Conference Call to discuss our movement and the current bills in Congress for a 28th Amendment.

Senator Tester knows that this problem of corruption and influence by corporations, special interests, and the wealthy elite exists in both parties - and it's a problem we must come together to solve.

In 2012, the people of Montana passed a ballot initiative 75% to 25% to move the 28th Amendment forward. They were sick and tired of corporate money in Montana elections and a Supreme Court in Washington DC that empowered the powerful and struck down Montana's election and campaign finance law that had stood for 100 years. The people spoke up -- and Senator Tester went to work!

A third-generation farmer, Senator Tester ran for office after seeing the disastrous impacts of the deregulated energy industry in his state, and the impact of political spending by global chemical and agriculture corporations. The Senator has fought for sweeping ethics legislation to fight corruption, he has banned all gifts, meals, and travel from lobbyists for himself and his staff, he has stood up to corporations and special interests, and he has introduced multiple bills to end big money in politics by proposing a 28th Amendment to overturn Citizens United.

Next Saturday, September 9th, Senator Tester will join American Promise and citizens like you for a call to discuss our movement and the current bills in Congress for a 28th Amendment. Don't miss out: register for next month's national conference call now!

Montana was one of the first states to demonstrate widespread, cross partisan support for the 28th Amendment. Since that ballot initiative passed in 2012, 19 states in total and 800 cities and towns have passed similar resolutions.

With momentum on our side, our national Citizen Leadership Calls provide inspiration, connection, and guidance for Citizens Leaders who are leading the call for the 28th Amendment. This is how we win.

Join us and Senator Jon Tester to discuss how we win the 28th Amendment. RSVP for our September 9th conference call today.

Hope to hear you on the call,

Ben Gubits Associate Director, American Promise
