Bozeman affordable housing program isn’t working, mayor says
Bozeman’s effort to encourage affordable home construction by offering incentives to builders and developers "has not worked," Mayor Carson Taylor said Monday in his annual State of the City address, adding that he intends to have the city look at "all available tools" to address its housing crunch.
Taylor, who passed the midpoint of his two-year stint as the city’s lead commissioner in January, also urged considering involuntary annexations for unincorporated parcels surrounded by the city and touched on Bozeman’s ongoing debate over mid-rise development projects like the Black-Olive proposal, the current version of which the commission voted down last week.
