Montana Ranks #1 in the The Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurship – Missoula ranked 9th and Bozeman 12th in their startup rate

The Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurship series http://www.kauffman.org/multimedia/sketchbook/kauffman-sketchbook-kauffman-index is an umbrella of annual reports that measure U.S. entrepreneurship across national, state and top 40 metro levels. Rather than focusing on inputs, the Kauffman Index focuses primarily on entrepreneurial outputs–the actual results of entrepreneurial activity, such as new companies, business density and growth rates.

The Kauffman Index series consists of three in-depth studies–Startup Activity, Main Street Entrepreneurship and Growth Entrepreneurship.

Among the 25 "Small" States in the United States, the state of Montana ranked 1 in Startup Activity, 3 in Main Street Entrepreneurship, and 23 in Growth Entrepreneurship.

Compared to itself in the previous year, the state of the state of’s entrepreneurial community is experiencing a slight decrease in startup activity, a large increase in main street entrepreneurship, and basically no changes in growth entrepreneurship.
