Rob Quist wins Montana Democratic nomination for House of Representatives Special Election

Popular musician Rob Quist http://www.robquistformontana.com/ has won the Democratic nomination for Montana’s special election to fill Ryan Zinke’s U.S. House seat.

Party members from across the state selected Quist on Sunday over seven other candidates during a special nominating convention in Helena.

Quist is famous within the state as a bluegrass, country and rock singer and guitarist with the Mission Mountain Wood Band and with Rob Quist and Great Northern.

This is his first run for political office. His nascent campaign got a big push when former Democratic Gov. Brian Schweitzer endorsed him in January.

Montana Democrats nominate musician Rob Quist for Congress

Montana singer and political newcomer Rob Quist won the state Democratic Party’s nomination for Congress Sunday afternoon, after leading in all four ballots cast at a special convention of electors.

Quist will face the Republican nominee, to be selected Monday, in a special election to send a new Montana congressman to Washington, D.C., replacing Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.

“I ask you to look outside the bubble of Helena,” Quist told delegates at the Helena gathering.
