Both agencies resist moving Montana State Parks to Department of Commerce

Moving Montana State Parks from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks to the Montana Department of Commerce would elevate parks’ importance as a driver of recreation, a Bozeman legislator argued Tuesday.

But as Republican Rep. Kerry White urged the House Fish, Wildlife and Parks Committee to vote for House Bill 454 as a means of supporting state parks, opposition came from both affected state agencies contending that the move would come with unintended consequences and expenses.
