FVCC’s Community Lecture Series Begins February 8

Flathead Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center is offering three community lectures in February. All lectures are free and open to the public and will be held in the large community room inside the Arts and Technology building on campus.

On February 8 at 7 p.m., professional photographer Nick Fucci will present images from his recent photo safari in Africa. "The West Coast of South Africa and Namibia: A Land of Extremes" will feature images of Numaqualand, Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, the Red Dunes, the Skeleton Coast and Etosha.

Author and historian Dr. E.B. Eiselein will present the second two lectures in the series. On February 21, he will take the audience on a journey through Scotland prior to the Roman invasion of Britain. "Ancient Scotland" will include images from displays at the National Museum of Scotland and the Orkney Museum, as well as photos of archaeological sites such as Skara Brae, Ring of Brodgar and Stones of Stenness. The lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Eiselein’s second lecture, "Origin of Religions," is scheduled for February 28. Based upon his forthcoming book on the origins of language and religion, this lecture will explore archaeological data, human evolution and the human brain. The lecture will begin at 6:30 p.m.

In addition to his community lectures, Dr. Eiselein will teach a two-session class exploring where, when and how the first humans lived. "Human Ancestors" is scheduled for February 1 and 8 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the college. Cost to register is $35 per person.

For more information about the lecture series or to register for "Human Ancestors," call FVCC’s Continuing Education Center at 756-3832 or visit http://www.fvcc.edu/continuing-education.
