Montana Rep. Jim Hamilton proposes tax deductions for venture capitalists
January 25, 2017 /
How can Montana attract and keep more high-tech startup businesses? Freshmen state Rep. Jim Hamilton, D-Bozeman, proposes taxing their investors less.
On Tuesday, Hamilton pitched fellow lawmakers on two tax proposals, the first, House Bill 187, allows venture capitalists to take a 30 percent income tax deduction on the amount of their investment so long as they put at least $50,000 in a Montana company. The credit is capped at $75,000 per year.
