Billings Gazette opinion: Superintendent Arntzen must get big picture on education – Graduation Matters

Why would Superintendent of Public Instruction Elsie Arntzen want to drop a privately funded, locally run program that has promoted high school graduation throughout Montana?

As Arntzen develops new initiatives, she doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel. Graduation Montana Matters is working, Arntzen should build on that success rather than discarding it.

Her spokesman, Dylan Klapmeier, sent out an email last week stating that "the Graduation Matters program is being phased out in a responsible manner." But this week, Klapmeier told a television station he didn’t use the correct term when he wrote "phased out."
