MCT asks: "What is Urinetown?"

Whatever it is… it runs 1/19-29 in Missoula

Imagine a world where a 20-year drought has made water so scarce that private bathrooms are banned by the government, public toilets are tightly regulated and Megacorporation Urine Good Company charges for "The Privilege to Pee." What happens, though, if you can’t afford to pay? This satirical musical is full of outrageous and contemporary "PeeG-13" humor, yet still tells a compelling story appropriate for high school ages and older. The Broadway production received numerous accolades, including three Tony Awards.

The opening of the Missoula Community Theatre’s hilarious new show, Urinetown: The Musical is just a week away! The cast has been hard at work learning the numerous dance numbers created by choreographer Megan Wiltshire. Many of the dance numbers in the show are parodies of famous dances from other popular musicals.

These nods to other musicals are a hallmark of Urinetown: The Musical. In fact, there are so many references to other popular shows that the show’s director, Joe Martinez, thought of a fun game in which the audience can participate. Each audience member will be given a sheet to list all of the theatre references mentioned in the show. Any form that lists all of the references will be added to a drawing for free tickets to our next show, Over the River and Through the Woods.

Urinetown: The Musical runs January 19 – 29 and tickets are still available. Check out the video to find out how to get buy one, get one free tickets during the first weekend of the show!
