Montana State University – Federal grant will fund development of career pathway program for emerging jobs in transportation

The Federal Highway Administration has awarded a $1.25 million education and training grant to the National Network for the Transportation Workforce to develop programs that will prepare students for critical jobs in the transportation sector, including planning, engineering, safety, operations and environment.

The National Network consists of five regional workforce centers, including the West Region Transportation Workforce Center (WRTWC) led by Montana State University’s Western Transportation Institute, or WTI, in the MSU College of Engineering. The WRTWC, which encompasses 10 western states including Montana, identifies specific transportation skills and jobs needed in our region and builds partnerships comprised of public agencies, private businesses and educational institutions to address those needs. The new funding will augment the $1.2 million grant that the Federal Highway Administration awarded to the Western Transportation Institute in 2014 to develop and operate the WRTWC for four years.
