Butte, Montana potentially affected as REC Silicon lays off 70 Moses Lake employees
November 2, 2016 /
Some workers at Butte’s REC Silicon http://www.recsilicon.com/?gclid=CL-PoKOCi9ACFQqDfgod1z4JwA plant are facing uncertainty as the company announced some 70 layoffs at its Moses Lake, Wash., facility early Wednesday.
An official at the company’s headquarters in Norway blamed the loss of the Moses Lake jobs on a global trade war with China, resulting in a tariff China has placed on solar-grade polysilicon. Overall, the company reported third-quarter revenues of $50.9 million, compared to $71.1 million in the previous quarter.
