Roadkill finding its way to dinner tables across Montana
Letting people eat roadkill made sense to state Rep. Steve Lavin, R-Kalispell, in 2013. A little more than two years later, it still makes sense.
“I think it’s worked really well. I hear a lot of good feedback on it actually,” said Lavin, who sponsored the bill that made picking up roadkill legal http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/licenses/salvagePermit.html .
Despite how weird it might sound to some, folks haven’t been shy about taking advantage of the new law and bringing home road-killed wildlife. At the end of September 2015, Montana, Fish, Wildlife and Parks had issued 1,747 roadkill salvage permits http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/licenses/salvagePermit.html to people all over the state who found an edible deer, moose, elk or antelope.
