A call for critical yeast at the University of Montana

We write as faculty members committed to both supporting and challenging the University of Montana. Here is why we do so.

Internationally renowned conflict expert John Paul Lederach refers to the concept of "critical yeast." His research has led him to observe that substantive change for the better often takes place not through a "critical mass" but through a critical yeast, a group – even a small one – of effective, committed, creative individuals willing to stick with their institution even as they may have challenging things to say about it.
