AMI Semiconductor receives Idaho Governor’s Marketing award

AMI Semiconductor is one of three Idaho businesses along with a high school teacher who received Governor’s Export Marketing Awards recently during the World Trade Day luncheon held at Idaho State University in Pocatello.

Given for excellence in export marketing, the awards were presented by Lt. Governor Jim Risch to representatives of AMI Semiconductor, Pocatello; Hess Pumice Products, Malad; P & I Produce LLC, Parma, and Kali Kurdy, Borah High School, Boise.

"International trade is critical to the health of Idaho’s economy," said Gov. Dirk Kempthorne. "The companies recognized today exemplify the best Idaho has to offer – vibrant businesses with strong and technically competent employees that continue to thrive during challenging economic times."

Roughly one-third of Idaho’s raw foods and manufactured products are exported to Singapore, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Mexico and Asia.

The value of Idaho products shipped abroad reached $2 billion in 2002. Products exported include high-tech components like computers and semiconductors, raw and processed food, paper and wood products, transportation equipment and metal products.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, more than 24,000 Idaho jobs depend on Idaho exports. Export-related jobs typically pay 17 to 48 percent higher than the average private-sector wage.

World Trade Day is sponsored by the Idaho Export Council. The council is a partnership between industry, the state of Idaho and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
