Montana gains rural family physicians

Montana has gained five new medical doctors who will care for Montanans in rural and under-served areas of the state thanks to the UM Family Medicine Residency Program.

One of the graduates, Dr. Saul Rivard says graduate medical education in Montana is improving and Sunday marked a big milestone for the program — as well as the health care in Montana.

"As far as national race go, 53 out of the 56 counties here in Montana are federally recognized as being underserved. So the fact that we’re able to graduate, residents, who then go into those rural and underserved areas is a great win for Montana," said Rivard
