Montana Dept. of Commerce Awards $50,000 to The Montana Economic Developers Association (MEDA) for Technical Assistance Activities

The Montana Economic Developers Association has been awarded $50,000 in technical assistance grant funds by the Montana Department of Commerce through the Community Development Block Grant Programs.

The Montana Economic Developers Association (MEDA) http://www.medamembers.org will use the grant funds to conduct a minimum of twelve Resource Team Assessments around the state within the next year. Resource teams visit rural communities for one to two day objective assessments. Community information is gathered from community tours, scheduled listening sessions with groups of citizens, and through evaluation of the community profiles

“Having MEDA provide intensive technical assistance in Montana’s rural communities is integral to our common goals to create new employment opportunities and to facilitate the economic health of our communities,” said Mark Simonich, Director, Montana Department of Commerce.

"The community resource team assessment process has already proven to be a useful tool in assisting communities chart their future," Paul Tuss, President of the MEDA, said. "This partnership between the Montana Department of Commerce and MEDA underscores the fact that healthy, pro-active communities are a cornerstone in building a more vibrant, sustainable economy for our entire state."

The Community Development Block Grant Programs are funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
