Missoula’s Southgate Mall moving forward with new visionary change this spring

If current plans hold true, you might not even recognize the south end of the Southgate Mall in Missoula by next year.

That’s because the mall developers are poised to start a reconstruction project that will not only revitalize Southgate, but also begin a broader vision of changing the landmark retail spot into a new neighborhood.

Southgate Mall Associates have been working for nearly ten years on plans to re-work the mall, where the basic layout dates to the early 1980s.

Those plans center around a "re-anchoring" of the former Sears store that closed last year, with the addition of a brand new theater, a grocery store and other smaller shops around a new "lifestyle" courtyard entryway.
