Applicants Needed To Develop Montana’s New Education Accountability Systems

Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau is seeking applicants to develop Montana’s new educational accountability system.

Late last year, Congress passed and President Barack Obama signed into law the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), reauthorizing the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The new law rolls back the unattainable requirements of No Child Left Behind and allows states to develop an accountability system that works for local schools.

The Office of Public Instruction is developing four groups to begin this work of creating a system that fits Montana. Applicants are needed to serve on one of the following work groups:

State Consolidated Plan: federal programs that support the plan in the areas of assessments, standards, school improvement and technical assistance

Accountability Plan: the system that will be used to identify schools of greatest need

E-Grants system: changes to the online grant application system

State and Federal Grants Handbook: revisions to handbook to align with ESSA

To apply to serve on any of the four work groups, please complete and submit an application by Feb. 26, 5:00 p.m.
