World Trade Center Assists With Israeli Consul General’s Montana Visit

The Montana World Trade Center at the University of Montana created a business-centric agenda for visiting Israeli officials Jan. 20-22.

The officials were Andy David, Israeli consul general to the Pacific Northwest, and his consul for economic affairs, Gili Ovadia. They were accompanied by Maya Vardi Shoshani, the West Coast representative for the U.S.-Israel Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation.

The MWTC guests learned about opportunities for research and development collaboration with Montana firms and investigated enhanced opportunities for trade between Montana and Israel.

“Our goal is to help Montana businesses understand the opportunity that exists within the Israeli market,” MWTC Executive Director Brigitta Miranda-Freer said. “We strive to connect Montana businesses operating – or trying to operate – internationally with funding that may assist them. With the Israeli group, we created an agenda that offers a comprehensive representation of what Montana has to offer.”

"We used to think that way about ourselves," David said of the Montana image of being far from anywhere. "But if we invest in knowledge and innovation, great things can happen. It doesn't make sense for Israel to send oranges to Montana. But it takes just a click of a computer to deliver ideas."

Consul-General Andy David David and West Coast Representative for the Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation http://www.birdf.com/ Maya Shoshani explained how U.S.-Israeli government investment programs could leverage any dollars an American company put toward partnership with an Israeli company. They also discussed ways Montana companies could arrange trade delegations to Israel or receive similar visits from Israelis.

Gili Ovadia, Consul for Economic Affairs http://www.israeltradeca.org/ also brought a wealth of information about business opportunities for Montana companies.

I had the pleasure of attending the luncheon and was very excited to hear of the many opportunities there were to engage Israel based businesses and R&D as well as significant funding programs. If you'd like to contact anyone in the delegation, please let me know. russ@matr.net 406-531-8119
