NorthWestern Energy discusses Montana’s lagging energy efficiency score

According to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, Montana tied for 31st, the same position it held in 2014. The state scored 13 out of 50 possible points, one point less than it earned last year.

Neighboring states of South Dakota, Wyoming and North Dakota were rated the lowest for energy efficiency programs.

The ACEEE uses six policy areas for their score card: utility and public benefits, transportation, building energy codes and compliance, combined heat and power, state government-led initiatives around energy efficiency and appliance and equipment standards.

NorthWestern Energy http://www.northwesternenergy.com/ is the largest energy provider in Montana. NWE spokeswoman Claudia Rapkoch said Montana’s low score is affected by how larger industrial businesses in Montana buy their energy. They pay for the transport of energy, but not the energy itself.
