Gov. Jerry Brown signs Fair Pay Act for women workers

Surrounded by young girls and older women, including "Rosie the Riveters" who worked in the Kaiser Richmond shipyards during World War II, Gov. Jerry Brown signed fair pay legislation Tuesday that will ensure women are paid the same as men for similar work and prevent retaliation if they inquire about how much male colleagues are paid.

The law is being touted as the strongest in the country and will require employers to pay men and women the same for "substantially similar work" unless there are differences based on productivity, merit and seniority.
