Montana group talks of years-long struggle over CenturyLink phone service – David versus Goliath

Meet some of the pivotal members of the Missouri River Residents for Improved Telecommunications Service, who fought for nearly eight years to bring better telephone service to many, but not all of the area’s 500 homes in the hopes of better telephone, and, as it turned out, better Internet service. On Aug. 25, a settlement was reached — as the state’s Public Service Commission was preparing to file a lawsuit in District Court — in which CenturyLink agreed to take $91 million in federal funds over the next six years to improve broadband infrastructure in rural Montana.
