Legislative committee stalls new campaign disclosure rules

Republican Sandy Welch, an outspoken proponent of disclosure, said there’s members of the Legislature who would like to protect "dark money" and referenced a discussion by conservatives on how to rebrand dark money as "anonymous free speech money."
State Sen. Dee Brown, R-Hungry Horse, chair of the interim State Administration committee that oversees the commissioner of political practices, held up implementation of the Disclose Act rules with the unanimous support of the committee until their next meeting on Oct. 14.
