How has big data changed your utility?

The increase in the volume and variety of data available has started to have a growing impact to Idaho Power and our customers. Having the ability to better plan and operate our electrical system in order to offer reliable, responsible fair-priced energy services to our customers is a key area of focus for us. Like other utilities, we are looking at how best to organize and manage the available data on the infrastructure side, as well as evaluating structures, tools and resources capable of leveraging the data in making important business decisions to benefit customers and shareholders. One of our earliest benefits of the "big data" increase is the ability to provide insight to customers on their energy consumption. Future uses of the volumes of data will continue to be focused on serving our customers better, in planning, developing, and operating the electrical system more efficiently, and doing our best to provide our customers energy services to meet their needs.
