Missoula One-Stop Employment Resource Delivers Services

When T.J. Maxx opened their new outlet store in Missoula,
they were able to staff their 100-person operation with the assistance of
the Missoula Job Service Workforce Center.

Business consultants from the
Missoula Job Service Workforce Center posted job openings, worked with T.J.
Maxx to host a job fair, facilitated the interview process, and provided
clean, accessible interview rooms for T.J. Maxx to use for interviewing job
candidates.

The store opened in April 2002, and six months later, over 75%
of the staff hired through the Missoula Job Service Workforce Center were
still working at T.J. Maxx.

"This retention rate is very high for the retail industry," said Cindy
Zaluski, Assistant Store Manager at T.J. Maxx. "The assistance provided by
the Missoula Job Service Workforce Center not only greatly simplified the
process but provided quality applicants.

The T.J. Maxx success story is being profiled in a direct mailing going out
from JobLINC, Montana’s statewide workforce system, to employers across the
state this month. It is part of an informational campaign to increase
employer awareness of the services Job Service provides to Montana
employers.

In addition to providing employment services, the Job Service Workforce
Centers provide facts about employment, wages, taxes and other issues of
importance to employers. To publicize business services available to local
employers, the Job Service Workforce Centers are participating in an
informational campaign with a "Super Heroes" theme, referring to the
business advocates at the Job Service Workforce Centers who provide personal
assistance to employers through their specialized knowledge of the local
employment market.

In addition to helping businesses find and pre-screen job
candidates, representatives assist them in understanding regulations and how
to take advantage of business tax credits. As part of this campaign, Job
Service recently sent out a mailer to targeted businesses in Butte/Anaconda,
Missoula, Miles City, Kalispell, and Polson that provides an opportunity for
employers to download a white paper on wage levels in industries and
occupations across the state.

Based on an annual survey of businesses across
the state, the white paper is intended to help employers set their wages at
the right level to be competitive and to retain qualified employees.
"The Missoula Job Service Workforce Center has all the facts, figures and
information that employers need when locating candidates, setting wages,
preparing their payroll taxes, seeking market niches or restructuring their
staff," said Wolfgang Ametsbichler, manager of the Missoula Job Service
Workforce Center.
