Montana’s Route of Hiawatha railroad bed bicyling trail ready to open

With the winter snow long gone, operators of the "Route of the Hiawatha" http://www.ridethehiawatha.com/ bike trail area ready to open for business, starting this weekend.

The 15 mile long "rail to trail" route is set to be open this Saturday and Sunday, and then seven days starting May 23 through September 27.

The trail uses the abandoned Milwaukee Railroad grade between the old town site of Taft, just below Lookout Pass on the Montana side, running through the mountains to the North Forks of the St. Joe River near Avery, Idaho. The route includes the St. Paul Pass Tunnel, which is over a mile and a half long.
