Missoula filmmaker cashes in on minute-long video competition

Who says you can’t eat the scenery?

A time-lapse video by Colin Ruggiero http://missoulian.com/colin-ruggiero-s-montana/html_9ee90048-2c1b-5122-a71d-01d026d1e8ef.html gobbles up Montana’s skies, mountains, lakes and prairie in 60 seconds – and it just made the Missoula filmmaker a cool $12,500 before taxes.

The bulk of that is the $10,000 grand prize in the Real Montana Audience Awards Competition that ended Wednesday.

Ruggiero’s piece, simply named "Montana," http://missoulian.com/colin-ruggiero-s-montana/html_9ee90048-2c1b-5122-a71d-01d026d1e8ef.html captured the most online votes in the wildlife and scenery class, one of five categories that drew more than 150 short video submissions. The preliminary round lasted two weeks in April and netted the winners $2,500 each.
