Montana-made ‘Shark Tank’ highlights Helena biz conference

Several Montana entrepreneurs on Thursday pitched to a panel of "sharks" ideas for businesses that would book a shuttle online for a float on the lower Madison, purify contaminated water from shale fracking and sell Montana-made sustainable purses.

Inspired by the TV show "Shark Tank" — which shows budding entrepreneurs pitching their ideas and attempting to secure funding from titans of the business world — the Montana rendition was part of the sixth annual Small Business Development Center Conference, a two-day gathering of roughly 300 businesses from around Montana.

Both in the conference and through daily operations, Montana SBDC’s "goals are to provide small businesses with the tools and resources they need to be successful," said Brandon Orr, conference chair and SBDC officer in Helena.
