University of Montana seeks input for Web Site Redesign- No fooling!

No fooling! The University of Montana is planning to redesign its Web site and wants your opinion.

All interested people are invited to share their thoughts about the current site and suggestions for the redesign by going to http://www.umt.edu and clicking the "Online Survey" link at the bottom of the page.

UM’s Web Development Committee has undertaken the task of redesigning UM’s main site, led by the recently formed Home Page Redesign Subcommittee. The project is headed by Martha Burtis, UM’s new director of Web development, who is based in UM’s Information Technology Office. The target date for implementing the new site is the beginning of fall semester 2003.

The redesign group has made it a priority to solicit input from campus and community constituents throughout the process.

Other developments on the UM Web horizon include:

* Standards. The ITO is collaborating with a number of campus offices, including University Relations, Printing and Graphics Services and Disability Services for Students, to develop a set of standards for UM Web pages. The goal of the standards is to facilitate an attractive, consistent and accessible Web site.

* Templates. The ITO and Spectral Fusion are creating a set of optional templates to help campus Web developers more easily create and maintain sites that comply with the Web standards.

* Training and Certification. The ITO soon will require all people responsible for the posting of content on UM Web servers to pass a regular training and certification program. The move is part of a campus effort to address server security issues.

For more information, visit the ITO’s Web development site at http://www.umt.edu/webdev , which also includes sign-up information for the new Campus Web Developer Mailing List.
