Montana universities’ controversial ‘performance’ money may double

The Montana Legislature appears ready to double-down on an idea called "performance funding" for the University System — divvying up $15 million between campuses according to how well each does in reducing dropouts and increasing graduates.

The Appropriations Education Subcommittee voted unanimously last week to approve roughly $400 million over the next two years for university budgets.
