NorthWestern Energy Donates $300,000 to Five Montana Recipients

NorthWestern Energy today announced that it has made significant donations to five entities in the civic, educational and nonprofit sectors across its Montana service territory. The donations, totaling $300,000, are part of the company’s Community Works program, which supports the communities where our customers and employees live and work.

"These are unique, one-time donations that we were pleased to be able to make as we closed out 2014," said Bob Rowe, NorthWestern’s Chief Executive Officer. "They are intended to complement our ongoing Community Works efforts, which include local contributions, scholarships, economic development support, and – especially – volunteerism."

The recipients of the donations are:

The MSU-Northern Capital Campaign, specifically the new automotive/diesel technology center, will contribute significantly to the local and regional economy in northern Montana. NorthWestern Energy’s $125,000 will support the technology center’s library. NorthWestern serves much of the Highline from Havre, and also has its growing natural gas production work located there. The donation underscores our commitment as a major employer in the Havre area.

The Butte YMCA is a valuable part of social and recreational life in Butte and southwest Montana. Our $60,000 donation is intended to help the YMCA enjoy a secure future in the city that is home to nearly 600 NorthWestern Energy employees.

The Montana Historical Society is the midst of an ambitious campaign to raise money for a large expansion of its facility in Helena, which is an asset for all Montanans. The $50,000 donation is intended to spur other donations and demonstrate the project’s broad support.

Energy Share of Montana provides emergency energy assistance to needy Montanans who may not be eligible for other energy-assistance programs. A donation of $50,000 will help meet the emergency needs of Montana customers.

The City of Thompson Falls continually works to improve the quality of life in the beautiful community on the Clark Fork River. A donation of $15,000 will help the city to refurbish and upgrade Ainsworth Field. NorthWestern Energy, as part of its recent purchase of PPL Montana hydroelectric dams, is the owner of the 94-megawatt dam in Thompson Falls as well as providing service in the area.

These donations from NorthWestern Energy are in addition to the roughly $650,000 in gifts, all of which are paid for by shareholders, NorthWestern provides in the form of charitable contributions and educational scholarships each year. As part of its broader Community Works programs, NorthWestern gives more than $2 million annually in support of charitable causes and economic development programs across its service territory in Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska. Community Works also includes employee volunteer efforts and company matching contributions.
