Kalispell Chamber announces legislative survey results

Legislative survey evaluates local opinion on taxes, education and infrastructure

The Kalispell Chamber of Commerce announced today the results of a legislative survey that pulled more than 100 members of the Chamber. The results of the survey indicate members desire a local government controlled sales tax and infrastructure development. Many opposed the implementation of an early childhood education program.

Data for the legislative survey was collected from 121 members. Key findings include:

73 percent believe local governments should have the authority to implement a local tax option, approved by voters.

52 percent do not support funding Early Edge Montana, a public pre-school for 4-year-olds.

71 percent supported using cash and bonds to invest in infrastructure development, such as water, sewer, roads, bridges and broadband Internet connections.

"The survey results demonstrate what Kalispell’s community believes must be done to develop a stronger economy," stated Joe Unterreiner, president of the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce. "Investing funds to strengthen the Valley’s infrastructure will increase job opportunities and make the community a better place to live."
