Scientist to speak at Rocky Mountain College on biotechnology on April 3

The director of public and government affairs for Monsanto Co. will speak on biotechnology and genetically modified foods at Rocky Mountain College on April 3.

Trent L. Clark will present a lecture at 7 p.m., in the Fortin Education Center Auditorium.

Monsanto, whose northwest U.S. operations are based in Soda Springs, Idaho, is a major international supplier of products to improve agricultural productivity, primarily in the areas of biotechnology and genomics.

Clark represents Monsanto’s position to regulatory agencies and elected policy makers. He also directs the company’s regional community-relations, corporate philanthropy and press office.

Before joining Monsanto, Clark served as former President George Bush’s director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Services in Idaho, administering the USDA farm income support and conservation programs.

His office, with a statewide staff of more than 300 employees, directed more than $45 million annually in soil and water conservation funds, as well as managed leases on more than a million acres of highly-erodible farm and timber land in Idaho.

Clark also was chief environmental economist for the Joint Economic Committee of Congress.

He was a college instructor of plant taxonomy and botany at Ricks College and worked as a naturalist at Yellowstone National Park.

His post-graduate education includes course work at the Harvard School of Public Health and the OTS Tropical Research Center in LaSelva, Costa Rica.
